I’d just like to point out an excellent essay on tompaine.com.

The essence of the article is to ask a simple question: How can you win a war against a methodology like terrorism? Answer: You can’t.

It’s nice to see that there is at least one other person on this planet who realizes what a bad idea this “war” is.
I agree with you and Juliet. BAD idea.
Excellent article! Now if we can just get people to read it.
You know, I was working with an Afghanistani doctor in the early 70s, and his brother was in the mujaheedin. I was young and dumb, and was coming out of the peace, love and hatred of our brothers fighting a shit war in Vietnam. All this time, I was trying to help him find money through his contacts in Switzerland. He had quite an extensive mailing list of supporters in that country. Imagine our surprise when we found – accidently – that the US was supplying arms and training to the mujaheedin. This was way before it was publicized. Needless to say, the good doctor was quite thrilled.
I didn’t know what the heck to think at the time.
I hope this “show” of war is rhetoric. No matter – if we think any government can save us against terrorism, especially on our own ground – then WE are the fools. I hope nothing ever gets back to normal. If we stay fat, happy and glued to some stupid sitcom, then we get what we get.
This is a dawning of intelligence. The intelligent will get what they want.
Sad but true.
