  • Real Second Life: SLCC / What’s in Tampa?

There’s a thing called the Second Life Community Convention. It’s a yearly thing. This year it’s in Tampa, early September.

It costs US$200 to register, it lasts two days, and there are three ‘tracks:’ Education, Business, and Community. There is only one schedule of events up thus far, for the community track. And, uh, it’s kind of only a month away…

Some people I want to meet up with are going to be there, but I’m having a hard time being excited about the prospect, because of cost and travel tedium. Which leads me to ask: What’s in Tampa?

  • Well, for Tampa itself, I dunno….

but, are you thinking you’d travel a bit around FL? because there are some cool beaches…. no, no, I’m not talking about the ones with huge high-rises ( for those…)

And the Everglades (esp since you seem to like photography….)
I’d suggest seeing Key West if you haven’t… (road trip!)
And, no, not just for the Key Lime Pie (which is one of my favorite desserts….*always* ask what color it is, first, though….)

    :D

  • Tampa… well, Busch Gardens is in Tampa. Nice roller coasters. If you cross the bridge into St. Petersburg, there’s the Dali Museum, which is pretty cool if you like Dali at all. Also in St. Pete: Sunken Gardens (haven’t been since I was a wee lass, but I hear it’s nice since the city took it over).  I like to go down to Sawgrass Lake park when I’m there. It’s small and nothing spectacular but on a good day you can turtles, alligators, herons, anhingas, and egrets all in the same ten minute walk (the trick is to go when the sun is out– overcast days not so good). Wish I could do better for Tampa proper, but… I never visit there. It’s always seemed like sort of a mini-Orlando-like commercial wasteland.

  • +1 for the Dali Museum in St. Pete… for Tampa, just find yourself a Cuban restaurant and get a sandwich and some coffee. Then, drive an hour or so ENE to my mother-in-law’s tattoo shop and get some ink with the family discount :)
