It's nice to have friends.
Specifically, friends in Deming and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Spent some time geocaching with sean, ate some excellent Tex-Mex (Irma's), and generally sat around being satiated the rest of the night. Woke up to discover that a screw had decided to let the air out of a tire during the night. Sean's place is a little remote, to say the least, so when I asked if he knew a place to take it, he hauled out the tire repair kit and did it himself. On my way out of the area, I went into town, aired it up, and it's been fine ever since.
And 'ever since' means the time it takes to drive to Socorro, have lunch with another set of friends, and then drive to Albuquerque with these friends in a caravan. Later tonight will be more feasting and sleeping, and then trying to get up early enough to make it to Vail, Colorado, before nightfall. Unlikely. But we'll try.
Now to go find one of those tire patch kits. Also snow chains.

i got two of those tire plug/patches done at a gas station last month twice in a week.. $25.00 then my wife scraped a curb- same tire, blowout... 5 per tire road hazard insurance from the tire dealer would have saved me a bundle...
@anth0nyc - $10 plus 10 minutes of your time per repair will save you about 30 trips to the tire dealer
@homer - glad the patch held, but not so glad that my attempt to sabotage you into staying another day was so easily thwarted, by my own hand no less.
... I meant what I said... come back when you've got a few days to kill, because there's plenty more exploring to do
@sean -
well actually the plan is to spend 5 on the tire insurance and never have to do anything again with tires again..
i had a really hard time finding the hole which was concealed in the tread, but the tire guy found it relatively quickly and fixed it...
That's awesome that you got to meet Sean! I love meeting other Xangans.
It's weird to think there's more snow going on. It's March and frankly, spring feels real close up here...
Stay safe and have fun!
I remember once out in a fairly lonely stretch of eastern WA that a can of Fix-a-Flat helped me get to the next town... (don't ask about the spare...it was one of those kinda trips)
Sounds like you're having a great road trip. My brother had tire insurance on very low profile tires. I think the dealership (or whoever it was that was handling things) must have lost money on the insurance because the next year? It wasn't offered.
I have yet to meet a Xangan that I don't already know.
