  • Dude, Where’s My Country?

Did you hear? There’s a natural order.
Those what’s deserving will end up with the most.
That the cream cannot help but always rise up to the top,
    Well I say: Shit floats.

The rest of the song, and fair warning: It has nasty language.

    Quantcast

Guess what? Telecom companies are lobbying for immunity from their FISA lawbreaking at the behest of the Bush administration.

I’m just so sick of it. I mean, you break the law, violating the civil rights of thousands of people, and if you have powerful lobbyists (recycled from the Clinton administration, too), you can get away with it. Or if you’re Bush, you can order this stuff, and then say “Boo!” and the Democrats will cave and change the law and cover your ass.

I get tired of this shit, because I don’t really live in America any more. I’m pining for the days of Ronald Reagan, for God’s sake! Back then it was just selling arms to Iran and delivering drugs for the Contras. Now it’s invading sovereign nations outright and wiretapping everybody by the corporate oligarchy.

When did we begin to inhabit a William Gibson novel?

  • It’s true, Reagan is starting to look sane and responsible, which only goes to show just how much he fucked this nation up.  Everything that is happening now was begun by his administration.  I have other things to say but they all seem to involve rape and violence this morning.

  • Yes indeed. Reagan can look “not so terrible”? It’s like a German in 1935 wishing for the old days of the military dictatorship during the Great War.

  • maybe we need a Second Life… oh, wait, that’s just a panacea…

    sigh

  • Yep.  That’s exactly what I’ve been saying for the past 5+ years and now I’m immigrating to Canada (my husband is Canadian.)  But the neocon influence across the globe is like a viral cancer… its getting thick up here too.

Doesn’t it just feel like they are using Orwell’s 1984, Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid Tale & Huxley’s Brave New World as planning guides?  I feel like the police state in the show Dark Angel isn’t so far off.

  • It’s awful, yeah, but I don’t think anything will ever make Reagan look good to me.  I remember Truman.  He didn’t look very good either.  I guess I haven’t read enough William Gibson.  I thought this was an Orwellian tale.

  • It’s only in America that cream sinks to the bottom.
