ryc: I'll yield to your superior knowledge of Texas history, but of course we're both just countering myths. And the UK almost recognised the Confederacy too, but, ya know, the Brits ain't my favourite example of how to run Foreign Policy.
Still, The Alamo was a bunch of white guys trying to re-draw borders for their own profit. And then the US sort of "re-drew" the Texas border as well (if Texas was a break-a-way Mexican state its boundary was surely not the Rio Grande. Perhaps the better analogy for the US actions in Texas are those of Iran in Iraq. Providing arms, volunteers, financial support in order to influence a growing civil war.
That MECHA thing - wow, wonderful to see people who can really get 'em scared...
