  • War Is Bad

This Memorial Day, what I really have to say is this:

    War is bad.

That’s really all there is to it. People die tragic deaths in war. It’s bad. War is the opposite of hope. How hard is this to understand?

I’d also like to link to Josh Marshall who’s talking about Dick Cheney. Cheney said this at West Point the other day: “Capture one of these killers, and he’ll be quick to demand the protections of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution of the United States. Yet when they wage attacks or take captives, their delicate sensibilities seem to fall away.”

Shouldn’t that make news? Shouldn’t it be a huge fucking controversy?

And here’s another thing to consider: Why are we funding the wars as emergency supplemental bills?

  • “is it too much to ask the Vice President to refer to the protections of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution of the United States as good things? Perhaps protections that he’s proud of?” This Vice-President? There’s never been anyone elected to the Presidency or Vice-Presidency who have hated America like Bush and Cheney do. Not even Buchanan.

  • Cheney is totally insane. We have to fund the war in emergency supplementals or it would crash the economy. If the money for the war (just like medicare part D) was on the books it would triple our taxes to pay for it…

  • The corollary question is, of course: If we can’t afford to wage wars, why are we waging wars?

  • Stop being so logical. You’ll just drive yourself insane wondering if everyone else is normal and you’re the one that’s gone nuts.
