If someone wants to drop ~$500 on a birthday/Xmas gift for me, you could do worse than one of these.
(Click on 'front view.')(I'ts a Victorian-looking wood-and-brass 6x12-format pinhole camera. I'm probably going to get myself the 6x9 version, which is considerably cheaper. This decision comes after looking at this flickr set.)

Or you could try making your own by hand. They aren't that difficult.
I've thought about that, too, and zero image sells the pinholes. But the 6x9 is cheap enough that it's worthwhile to just buy it.

I want to get into tin types. I am a Civil War reenactor and I think it would be cool to do it the 1860s way.
Good luck with that, but be careful. Here's a guy who does it. It's far from trivial.
If you get it happening, I wanna see!
