  • because it's powered by groupthink, and IQ's don't really figure into the main Xanga demographic. :/

  • I can't even figure out what the "boost" feature is, much less how to use it. Is it one of those paying-member-only things?

  • Boost is an attempt by Xanga to overhaul the 'featured content' system, to be something like Digg - you click the "Boost this entry" link over there under Homer's picture, and it goes into the nomination queue. You go to the boost page to browse the nomination queue and rate things people have nominated ("boosted"). The highest rated stuff appears on the page that Homer linked to. Not a premium feature, AFAIK.

I think it's a good idea, but it hasn't been executed very well. You have to jump around to too many places to fully participate. The only really effective thing I see is the fact that "boosting" something is a separate act from commenting on something. Commenting automatically tacks on the eProps, which is what drives the current featured content system. By keeping commenting and boosting separated, you're more likely to think about nominating something, which theoretically means less crap will rise to the top.

Of course, if that were true, this entry would have never been written, so maybe I should just STFU already.

  • haven't paid it much mind...

  • I like sean.
