Kate Bush
RamenDragonElok asks: Who's Kate Bush?
If you ever heard Peter Gabriel's 'Don't Give Up' duet, that's Kate Bush.
Think of any female pop star, and you're thinking of someone who's derivative of either Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell.
You can hear snippets of her latest album, 'Aerial,' right here. Unfortunately, it doesn't include anything from the second CD of the set, which I think is the better of the two.
It also turns out that EMI records has re-issued most of her catalogue in gatefold LP-facsimile packaging. If only they were remastered, too...

i liked "running up that hill"
My KB favorite is "The Dreaming"... awesome stuff
I'm totally pop-ignorant. The reason I asked was that you said "what the White Stripes would be if Kate Bush were..." I thought you were implying that KB is part of the WS, and I only know of Jack and Meg White. "Is Kate Bush Meg's real name or something? Or maybe it's an inside joke? Argh."
KB isn't exactly "pop".
Yah, I wasn't being literal when I was making that description. If you're familiar with Kate Bush, then it kind of makes sense, but if you aren't, then I suppose it doesn't.
Anyway: The invocation of Kate Bush only kind of applies to Dresden Dolls. They're really onto their own thing, which is what I like about them.
And sean: She's not exactly *not* pop, either. She's sort of like Peter Gabriel, in that she's taking pop and rock idioms and bending them around into strange loops and whorls.
if only . . .
