Something I Don’t Understand…
I don’t understand this, which is probably why I don’t vote Republican as a general rule.
The Republicans put Bush in the White House, and they put those corrupt congresscritters in Congress, and we have the largest national debt ever in the history of the world, and we have an inept war going on that was started based on lies, and we have a President who failed to prevent the most vicious attack on US soil in decades, and now it’s come out that they’ve got our phone records and have been tapping phones without a court order in violation of law and the Constitution…
But the Republicans give them a pass on it. Corruption in Congress? Non-story. Hookers at the Watergate? Non-story. Occupation of a foreign country based on lies? Yawn.
But you know what riles them up? The Mexican border. The semi-subconscious racism and economic terror brought on by globalism and the decline of the middle class in the US at the hands of the US economic elite, scapegoated on poor people going to desperate measures to find something better.
The real issue for America (both the nation and the continent) is economic. The US middle class is shrinking, and our economy is based on two things: Debt and foreign oil. Neither of these things is sustainable, and our technological superiority is dwindling. We have right-wing whiners telling us to teach creationism in science class, and then we wonder why we’re behind on science. Our real problems are complex, and to solve them a bunch of people are going to have to admit that they’ve been wrong for decades. So it’s not going to happen until we’re even more of a third world country.
So it’s much easier to say it’s all about the border with Mexico and leave it at that, I suppose. But I still don’t understand it.

Iran
(Note that while this uses America and Iran, it can easily apply to any two countries led by right-wing nutjobs.)

The Right Man
The right man to lead the CIA at this critical moment in our nation’s history.

Background
The background image for my xanga site didn’t make it to New Jersey in the recent server move. I wonder where it went.

Lefty Drunkards
First there was DrinkingLiberally, and now there’s GreenDrinks.
I remember a while back reading an issue of some progressive magazine with a cover story about how beer could save the country from George W. Bush in 2000. They suggested getting all your progressive neighbors over for a BBQ or something, and then go en-masse to the polls. They suggested that brewpubs could offer free beer if the customer could show proof of having voted.
I’m not sure how much a difference this suggestion made (mostly because that election was stolen), but the idea lives on. Meetups for adults with a relatively narrow set of common desires for social change. Right-wingers have church, progressives have the pub.

We Feel Fine
via mefi: Go to WeFeelFine.org and do what comes naturally. It’s a thing that collects statements of feeling from the web in real time and then presents them in various interesting ways.

Protected
I really hate that Xanga has a separate page for protected posts that people are letting you read. I usually forget to read it, so when I remember, there’s like a million things to read.
And what’s really sad about it is that these are the posts people have invested enough in to worry about it. They’re trusting me with it, and I’m ignoring it because it requires an extra click.
I’m such a jerk.

So if you have me on your protected list, and I haven’t been commenting, that’s why.
