Still Tanked
The new gas tank arrived! Yay! One small problem: The outgoing feeder hose is too small for the existing hose. Grr. Now I have to figure out whether it's a real problem (will it give enough fuel to the fuel pump?) and thus I should return it, or if it's just a MacGuyver kinda deal, where making a hose size adaptor (which might leak) will be good enough.
Argh.
Maybe I could save my nickels and dimes and get one of these. Diesel-only (fine by me), but no 4wd option. Sigh.

wow.. "vanagon" long time since i heard that word..
i'd try the hose clamp adaptation
that's a dilemma - you can't exactly return the tank once you put gas in it, right?
Reading about your vehicle problems gives me hives (figuratively). Reminds me of the bad old days when I had older cars, not much money and grease under my fingernails if I wanted to get from here to there. Now I have cars that will go anywhere and I don't often take them out of the garage. Sometimes, life isn't fair. Sometimes it is but I think it may be an accident.
Why don't you call a carburetor shop and ask? There should be some place that specializes in fuel systems in the yellow pages.
Maybe a radiator shop could replace the fitting cheaply, since the tank's off the car.
YOu've been hosed!
Okay well I say get the right hose, every time.
Funny, I like having a car that can be worked on, but after a while I reeeelly start looking at something new, shiny and dependable.
naaaah!
