Mark Hancock 'blogs his coverage tips for photojournalists assigned to 4th of July events. It's from last year, but he linked back to it in a more recent entry.
Reading it, I'm ready to go on assignment!
Gotta love photo-ninja advice like this:
For long-lens shots, stick to the shadows (for concealment) and shoot with the sunlight at no more than a 90 degree angle. We stay near other larger objects to hide our presence and we’re patient if spotted (A.D.D. works to our advantage).
