  • Hey, and in case you haven't registered to vote, you should, even if you don't end up voting. That way those of us who care about America will be able to say that some large percentage of registered voters aren't worthy of licking the Barney poop off the soles of George W. Bush's shoes.

Or something. I'm so persuasive, am I not?

Anyway. Register and vote. Vote absentee if you're scared your vote won't be tabulated by a touch screen.

In case you didn't get the message:

    1) REGISTER.

    2) VOTE.

  • I'm not a huge fan of voting anymore because of the way we were robbed in 2000 in Florida.  They had so much success with it there they planned on expanding to many other states.  I think rather than voting and feeling more raped I will not dignify them by pretending the system of democracy is still in place.  It's a crappy feeling but Democracy has been in America only in our imaginations for a long time now.

  • no voting for me! (to be said with a soup nazi accent)

  • Schmangy: That's a complete cop-out. If you vote and the election is rigged, then you *should* feel 'raped,' because you *have been.*

And you now have the opportunity to get that guy out of office... by voting.

  • I have no reason to believe this election will be any different.  I can't say I won't vote for sure but if I do I'm expecting an overwhelming feeling of having wasted my time right after I do it.  I believe getting rid of Bush is very important but we should never have accepted him as a president to begin with.  Him working for 4 years within an office he stole from the American people is just a symptom of a much bigger problem.
The people no longer have even the small amount of power we used to.  If I go to the polls and cast a vote and it is disregarded again haven't I just allowed them to steal more of my time along with everything else they're taking?

As I said I don't like feeling this way about the situation but I believe this is how it is.

  • I guess I just can't understand the rationale here. I can understand feeling slighted, and I can understand not wanting to get slighted again, but how does that translate into deciding you *will* be slighted, and so therefore it's best not to vote?

  • I have the opportunity to go to polls and vote which will accomplish nothing because it is going to be decided by Choicepoint/the electoral college/The Supreme Court.  Or I could use that time grab a bite to eat and I would feel more like I had accomplished something.

I guess I feel that voting is now done more out of nostalgia for what used to be.  Back in the day our votes were at least counted as far as we know.  These days we are even more insignificant to those in power.

Democracy is a great idea but I'm not willing to say we ever fully accomplished it in America.
