  • Rented some movies tonight.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Like watching Kasey strike out. The potential was there, and all the gadgets and gimmicky things were neet-o, but the unforgivable moment at the end where a dying Alan Quartermain says to Tom Sawyer that the 20th century will be his made me regret having watched the preceeding. The idea that heroes from escapist Victorian literature were the first superheroes is cool, but the hand-off to Mark Twain and America…? Sheesh! I was ready to believe up to then.

Then came a DVD spotlighting the work of music video/commercial director Chris Cunningham. Lots of really creepy and sensuous videos, including my new favorite song, Bjork’s ‘All Is Full Of Love.’ Look for it on a P2P network near you.

  • Bjork is very cool.
If you like her sound, look up Portishead, Massive Attack, and Placebo.

  • I thought the same thing about League. When it ended I just thought, damn, they missed that one.

  • I haven’t seen the movie yet, just ‘cos it looked fairly cheesey to me and I didn’t want to waste any $$ on it.  I’m waiting for someone I know to buy it and I can just borrow it from somebody!

But yes, Bjork is great.  She has a beautiful voice!  If you like that song, you should check out ‘Army of Me’ or ‘Human Behavior’, those are two of my favorite songs of hers.

  • The thing about Bjork is that I like the things about her that aren’t cool. For instance, the song ‘All Is Full Of Love’ basically says that love isn’t simply where you’re looking, but everywhere, all at once.

That’s not a very ‘cool’ thing to say, but it’s presented in a very, very cool way so you hardly notice that it’s goofy and sentimental.

She’s hit-and-miss in this regard, too. I got her ‘Vespertine’ CD, and while it was cool to listen to, it’s ultimately not that satisfying in other regards.

  • “League” sucked raw ass. It was like the producers said, “hey, let’s make a movie without a single believable moment in it, a mere vehicle for toy sales that even Sean Connery cannot save”.

“League” was the second movie ever (the other being Highlander 2) to make me want to talk to the theatre manager to get my money back.

Bjøørk however has her moments. She is -at least- always original.

  • Wow. Two Sean Connery flicks prove disappointing for Marco. Shaken, not stirred.
