  • Because Tej enjoyed the last one, and because it's just the coolest thing ever to be recorded, I offer the full 14 minutes of Duke Ellington's 'Diminuendo and Crescendo In Blue.'

Before you listen, be sure there's enough space near your computer to jitterbug. Seriously.

Note also that the file is 14+ megabytes, so broadband is pretty much required unless you're self-disciplined enough to delay gratification.

  • You should know I download every track you ever post and give it at least one listen.

I have only recently (last year and a half?) seriously gotten into jazz. I started with John Coltrane, listened to everything I could get my hands on, which lead me to his early work with Miles Davis, which has lead me on other tangents. One of them, unfortunately, has not been Duke Ellington. This track has whetted my appetite.

What a scintillating arrangement! Such complexity and depth from such a sparse setup -- it set my ears on fire. Thank you for posting it. Next time we meet, we must have a discussion about music (jazz). That is, I'll have a pen and paper and you will tell me what I am missing out on.

  • I'm afraid I'm not that much of an expert, but I'm sure it'd be an interesting conversation.
